Mindfulness Practices

Angela von Detten

Hi Friends! As we carry on with the Safer at Home orders, staying physically and mentally healthy is critical. Here's a list of questions to reflect on and moments to practice during this time. I hope this serves you. Be well!

What am I grateful for?

Take a moment to reflect on a positive piece of your day.

This can be as simple as the cup of strong coffee you have in the morning, or being able to sleep in an extra 15 minutes. For me, as I write this blog, I'm thankful for our amazing weather we have here in Southern California. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Who am I connecting with?

Lean on loved ones near or far. Let them know you are thinking of them.

Reconnecting with high school friends has been such an interesting trip down memory lane!

Now is the time- see if you can track down some old friends and see how they're feeling during this quarantine.

What expectations of "normal" am I letting go of?

During this time, it's as important as ever to practice kindness and patience with yourself and others.

Due to all the changes and uncertainty we are facing in our lives right now- this may feel like a tough one! The best thing we can practice is being aware of the unrealistic expectations we have and to reframe them so that we are easier on ourselves and those around us.

Personally, I remind myself that it is ok if my "to do's" weren't completed one day, or if I didn't end up getting that work out in. Try and let go of the "should" and give yourself more flexbility to adjust to living differently!

How am I getting outside and how am I moving my body?

Whether you are taking a solo run, practicing yoga and meditation, or just sitting outside with the family, it's important to get some fresh air and sunshine.

Being in nature, getting fresh air, and sunshine are like natural "antibiotics"- they can improve your mood and have real health benefits.

During this time in quarantine, I've made it part of my daily routine to take walks around the neighborhood and soak in the sun! Even if it's for 10 minutes a day or as simple as just getting your head out of the window and taking some deep breaths- I encourage you to step outside and see how good it feels!

How am I creating or inviting beauty?

Each new day is an opportunity to reset and focus on positivity. Find time for the small moments that bring you joy.

Enjoy the beautiful flowers that Spring has brought us, share a laugh with a loved one, cook & savor your favorite meal, and get excited about watching a new episode of your favorite show!

Enjoy the little things. Some day you may look back and realize they were big things!
