Things to Do in Marina del Rey

Whether you want a fun time out on the water or a relaxing day looking at the boats and sea lions while strolling along the shore, there is always something to do in Marina del Rey. Here are some local favorites:

→ Beaches. Don’t limit yourself to just one beach--explore all that Marina del Rey has to offer. Located in a lagoon in Marina del Rey is Marina “Mother’s” Beach, complete with lifeguards, shaded picnic areas, and a playground. To the south, you’ll find Playa del Rey, and to the north about half a mile is Venice Beach. Another three miles north, you’ll find Santa Monica Beach and the world-famous Santa Monica Pier.

→ Marvin Braude Coastal Bike Trail. Jump on the 22-mile Marvin Braude Coastal Bike Trail that winds through the Marina to enjoy endless ocean views, people watching, and shops galore.

→ Ballona Wetlands. Just south, you’ll find 600 acres of protected habitat, home to hundreds of plant species and birds. You can walk along the trail solo or have a docent give you an educational tour.

→ Burke Marina Walk Promenade. If you like boats, walk along the paved path that winds around the Marina to get the best views of the harbor. The boardwalk offers access to and from the waterfront hotels and restaurants, making an easy escape for dinner.

→ Chace Park. One of many great parks in Marina del Rey, Chace Park is perfect for a picnic, family gathering, or leisurely stroll. The waterfront green space includes a walking path along the perimeter with views of sailboats, sea lions, and the gleaming harbor waters.

→ Fisherman’s Village. Modeled after a New England fishing town and port, Fisherman’s Village is on the harbor, allowing you to catch views of the Marina, passing sailboats, and wildlife. Here you will find shops, restaurants, and the Marina del Rey Historical Society’s exhibit space.
